server 1Sunny summer server and matching chairs to make your little staycations even more special

server 4I recently spotted a small gray server with whimsical chairs for sale. They looked like a simple refurbishing project. We all know how those simple projects somehow become not-so simple. I discovered that the gray polka dot chairs had been spray painted while the server was finished in a more rustic chalk-like paint. The chairs also had a raised pattern under the paint. Sanding revealed the original fruit and leaf raised stencil. server 5I also sanded the server down to bare wood to ensure a smooth finished surface and added a shelf behind the door.

Tom kindly put his carpentry skills to work and added an oak cutting board inset to the server. The natural toned oak (finished with food-grade wax) contrasts nicely with the painted surface.

Pieces this fun seemed to call for a bold color. Tom thinks I over-shot the mark with an eye-popping Limon Green. It’s a happy color that says summer fun.server 3

I had considered adding the pieces to our screened porch. However, Leah (owner of Birker’s Bows) asked if I had any painted chairs I would like to sell, so you can find the sunny summer server, matching chairs and coordinating pillows at Birker’s Bows & Iowa Crafters -117 West 4th Street in Vinton, Iowa.
