The California Animal Welfare Law prohibits the adoption of puppies and kittens under 8 weeks old. The intent was to prevent puppy mill sales of underage animals. An unforeseen consequence is that litters taken to animal shelters are generally euthanized immediately. Annalisa, a member of an Animal Rescue Foster program, is fostering these babies until they are old enough to be adopted. Connor and Mila are ½ Shih Tzu and ½ Norwich Terrier. Have you ever seen cuter faces?
Please help spread the word that if folks must surrender litters to animal shelters, they need to wait until the babies are 8 weeks old. Also, fostering puppies or kittens for a few weeks saves their lives and can enrich yours.
